Portrait photography or portraiture in photography is a photograph of a person or group of people that captures the personality of the subject by using effective lighting, backdrops, and poses. A portrait picture might be artistic, or it might be clinical, as part of a medical study. Frequently, portraits are commissioned for special occasions, such as weddings or school events. Portraits can serve many purposes, from usage on a personal Web site to display in the lobby of a business.
Portraits below on internet that I like
Lee Jeffries
Lee Jeffries lives in Manchester in the United Kingdom. Close to the professional football circle, this artist starts to photograph sporting events. A chance meeting with a young homeless girl in the streets of London changes his artistic approach forever. Lee Jeffries recalls that, initially, he had stolen a photo from this young homeless girl huddled in a sleeping bag. The photographer knew that the young girl had noticed him but his first reaction was to leave. He says that something made him stay and go and discuss with the homeless girl. His perception about the homeless completely changes. They become the subject of his art. The models in his photographs are homeless people that he has met in Europe and in the United States: «Situations arose, and I made an effort to learn to get to know each of the subjects before asking their permission to do their portrait.» From then onwards, his photographs portray his convictions and his compassion to the world.
A white background has been used. Medium depth of field has been formed. I think the contrast between the white background and the ladies dark skin is epic!
A worms eye view has been used for this image. The sky has made for a background of dark and light with interesting texture.
Steve McCurry
Steve McCurry is an American photographer, freelancer and photojournalist. His most famous photo is of the "Afghan Girl", the girl with the piercing green eyes that periodically appears on the cover of National Geographic. McCurry has photographed many assignments for National Geographic and has been a member of Magnum since 1986
A photographer has captured a reflection in the water, and the background has gone out of focus. Is a man carrying a sewing machine through deep water.
I think this photo has been captured at dusk, a natural light makes the sea stand up with a large depth of field. Its my favourite one out of these 3 photographers
Sally Mann
Sally Mann is an American photographer, widely known for her large-format, black-and-white photographs—at first of her young children, then later of landscapes suggesting decay and death.
Black and white image the light is natural, an under water camera has been used, making it harder to captured.
Black and white image, captured dark area and light area. The girl looks like she is doing gymnastics on the dinner table.
Practice shoot - Emotions
My worst image because it is out of focus.
My best image because it is in focus and I have captured the emotion of unhappiness.
Black and white shoot
For this shoot, I set the camera up into monochrome mode.
My worst image because it is under exposed, I could have used a light to lighten some areas and create shadows.
My best image because I have stood my subject under a down light, this has made the image more interesting due to the shadows created.
My worst image because its not in focus and too bright, also too far away from subject.
My best image because I have used both natural lighting and the down lights in the corridor, this has created a silhouette of the girls taking the photo. It is in focus and I have captured the girls in a natural pose.
All about the eyes
My worst image because there is too much going on in the background and the light through the window is too much.
My best image because it is in focus and I've caught the light on his hair, also I have zoomed in for the eye.
Personal Response
Plan
I chose to do a family theme for my personal response. I will capture some natural photos of my family in colour and black and white, also I will aim to capture an image that is different and eye catching.
First Family Shoot
My worst image because it is too out of focus.
My best image because its in focus and the centre of the picture is eye catching.
2nd family shoot
My worst image because it isn't in focus and I unbalanced the camera to make it blurred.
My best image because it is in focus and the light is catching on the picture of my parents talking together.

In day time a water fall like somebody's hair. It creates a feeling of happiness because of the lighting
At night time we can see the moon and 2 people with sheets over them, floating on the sea in a bucket.

Project analysis From My research of 5 photographers I have learnt lots of different ways of taking portrait photos and editing them. I have enjoyed doing the texture and macro edits because I liked making people look scary using texture.
I found taking black and white images easy and taking pictures of my family was quite hard.
overall I found this project interesting because there is so much you can do with portrait photography.
