Why I choose spirals I choose spirals because after reading through all the options, and looking at photos online, I thought I would like to create images like that.
Yuval Codmon Yuval creates interesting, artistic images using light. The images below show his work creating spirals.
In order for Yuval to capture this image, he will have had to use a slow shutter speed on his camera. Also he will have probably taken the photo in a dark room.
This is my favourite image because of the 2 different coloured lights used. I think it looks artistic.
Andy Goldsworthy Born July 26, 1956, Cheshire, England. British sculptor, land artist, and photographer known for ephemeral works created outdoors from natural materials found on-site.
I think Andy has used a medium depth of field and a fast shutter speed. He has placed all the pebbles into the shape he wanted to create this image. I think it is an artistic image.
I like the way Andy has cut each pebble in half to create a black line in a spiral. I like the spiral pattern which he created.
My plan
My photo-shoot 1
My worst image because I held the camera too low and so cant see the spiral shape I made with beads.
My best image because I have captured the spirals in shells, its got a black background and with its medium depth of field.
My photo-shoot 2
My worst image because the background is too light, next time I will make it darker. the shape is a curve but should be a spiral.
My best image because the background is dark and the shape is a spiral, however, I have chopped some of the shape off the image, so would like to do this shoot again to see if I can improve on the image.
2nd attempt from 2nd shoot
My worst image because the background it is too light
My best image because I have managed to get the exposure right so that the background is dark, and you cant see the person holding the light. I have captured the spiral shape and I didn't chop any off.
Ultra Violet Light shoot 3
My worst image because it is out of focus and too bright.
My best image because it is in focus, I have the lighting as I wanted it, using a UV light. I used some spirals on a piece of paper to capture small and big spirals.
My photo shoot 4
my gallery of images
My worst image because it is out of focus.
My best image because it is in focus and the shutter speed is fast. Medium depth of field is formed. The shells are looked easy to do.
My photo shoot 5
My gallery of images
My worst image because it's out of focus and too much background.
My best image because its in focus with an shallow depth of field and an fast shutter speed.
My photo- shoot 6
my worst because it is out of focus
My best image because it is in focus and I like the way I have captured the shadow too.
Edits from Photo-shoot 6
This is my worst edit because I have only changed the colour of the photo.
This is my best edit because I have change the opacity to overlay with another edit I had previously done.
My photo-shoot 7
My worst image because it is too dark and I have not zoomed in enough to the spiral. I have learnt that it is difficult to get the lighting just right when taking photos using Ultra Violet light!
My best image because it is in focus, I got the lighting just right so that you can see both the arm and the glow from the UV spiral.
Home work - to take some photos of spirals
Final outcome
Final plan
I really enjoy taking photos of the lights, I also enjoy editing my photos. For my final shoot I am going to get more creative with my light photos. I will take a variety of photos using lights and then edit them to create some photos I am happy with. I will then print them off and make a hanging spiral, using all my photos.
I have researched Annette Messager, she does a lot of work with hanging things from the ceiling and photographing them.
I found this image of hers and would like to do something similar for my final piece.
Gallery of images
These images will be used in my final piece when I put it all together.
Edits
final piece completed
my worst image because it is too dark and you cant see the images hanging from the umbrella.
My Best image because of the exposure and the Shutter speed is right also I have taken the photo on an angle. This is a worms eye view to make the picture interesting and it is in focus.
Project analysis
From my research of 3 photographers I have make my writing stand out on this project. I enjoyed doing the lights in the dark room to make spiral shapes, I enjoyed this because each image I took looked different. I think my photo-shoots look amazing. My progress is on a Grade 5 some of my photos is a Grade 7 I will try to push my grade even higher to a Grade 9.
I found that taking photos of things around me, with spirals, to be easy but trying to capture the lights in the dark room was a challenge.
