Depth of field is the distance between the nearest and farthest objects in a scene that appear acceptably sharp in an image.

Aperture, focal length and focusing all work together to effect depth of field and control what appears sharp in a photo.
Shallow depth of field
This is when the one main thing is in focus and everything else is not in focus.
Medium depth of field
This is similar to shallow depth of field but there is more in focus.
Large depth of field
This is a wide picture with lots in the image. Things in
the foreground and the background are sharp
Practice shoot below.
My best photo is this one because I have the centre branch in focus and the background is out of focus. This is a shallow depth of field.
My worst photo is this one because there is nothing interesting, it is all in focus and there is no depth of field.
